How Can I Prepare for Clearing?

If you already know before Results Day that you might want to apply through Clearing, do as much research as possible to maximise your chance of success. Write a list of alternative Universities and courses that you are interested in. When the clearing list is published, it will be easier and less stressful to check against it.

Keep an open mind with the course. This way there is a greater likelihood of success and there is a broader range of available options. If you have your heart set on a specific subject, then it is possible to study it as part of a joint honours course.

If you are going to be going through Clearing, you’ll need to have your personal statement at hand. So, in the lead up to Results Day, fish it out. Go through it and make sure you’re familiar with everything you’ve written and all of the texts you mention. It could also be a great idea to look at some extra subject related material – and definitely ensure you’re up to date with industry news. This will highlight your enthusiasm and innate desire to continue learning. It can be really useful to look at what you have achieved, as well as your qualifications, universities will be impressed with anything else you have done to further yourself and education.
