Why You Should Consider an Apprenticeship

For more information, visit Milkround’s ultimate guide to apprenticeships!

By offering apprenticeships companies are essentially investing in people, shaping them into the kind of employees they need to run their business perfectly. It is quite common for apprenticeships to be overlooked or unappreciated as a career choice, but the truth is that they are so much more than a less worthy alternative to university.
An apprenticeship is the perfect way to get into a certain workplace or industry while still learning. You get 1-4 years of training which lets you truly learn the vocation you have chosen.

We have collected some of the numerous benefits of apprenticeships.

Earn while you learn
One benefit of apprenticeships is that they pay you for your efforts. Instead of incurring mountains of debt or having to take on a part-time job in addition to what you already do, you will finish your training with many new skills and no new debts to be repaid.

Have time on your side
By going straight from school to the workplace you are starting out in the actual working world years ahead of graduates. Take this time to work as much and as well as you can, collect new skills, and meet new people. Make sure that you become a valuable person in the company and that their investment in you was a good choice.

Become qualified
As an apprentice, you also work towards a qualification, of which there are many to choose from, and this is a very valuable element to add to a CV. This is especially true if you do not end up working for your place of apprenticeship permanently, but start looking for work after finishing.

Make useful friends
Spending time in the workforce rather than the classroom is an excellent opportunity to build professional as well as personal relationships. By making useful contacts at your current workplace you are building a safety net which could very well help you later, when you are applying for jobs.

Industries are creating increasingly more apprenticeships to find their perfect employees – make use of the many opportunities that are available to you and you will be sure to create a wonderful career for yourself. Sounds like a good investment to me!
