Birkbeck University of London

Founded in 1823, Birkbeck is a world-class research and teaching institution, a vibrant centre of academic excellence and London's only specialist provider of evening higher education. Over 90 per cent of Birkbeck academics are research-active and many are renowned experts in their fields. We encourage applications from students without traditional qualifications and we have a wide range of programmes to suit every entry level.

Why study with us?

Birkbeck is recognised as one of the world’s leading universities for excellence in research and teaching. The Times Higher Education World University rankings place Birkbeck in the top 1% of universities in the world.

Birkbeck provides an inspirational teaching and learning experience with some of the world’s leading academics. We have consistently ranked number one in London for teaching and student satisfaction in the National Student Surveys.

18,000 students from around the world study with us every year on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the arts and humanities, sciences, social sciences, law and business. We give them the opportunity to achieve their ambitions by building their careers during the day, and studying in the evening alongside highly motivated students, many of whom have real-life professional skills and backgrounds. We also offer exceptional careers development through our alumni – the majority of whom are career professionals in London.

Undergraduate students can study at a pace that suits them, and complete in 3, 4 or 6 years – all by evening study. We offer great financial support packages and bursaries for undergraduate study.

Birkbeck is located in the University of London’s central London campus in Bloomsbury WC1. In addition to Birkbeck’s 5-floor library, students will find a wealth of world-class research resources on their doorstep. We offer excellent academic support services, including networked computer systems, a Student Centre, and a Students’ Union. Students are at the heart of a vibrant city-centre university campus. In 2013 we opened a state-of-the-art new campus in Stratford (East London). Both campuses and are well served by public transport, making it easy to get to and from the College.
